Cause we all need this about right now.
La Vie En Rose – Grace Jones – 1977
From Wikipedia: -The song’s title can be translated as “Life in happy hues”, “Life seen through happy lenses”, or “Life in rosy hues”; its literal meaning is “Life in Pink.”-
No matter the circumstance or challenge, we are always blessed with a choice of how we each view and interpret that very moment. Choose wisely.
Eight Years, 2922 days, of continuous uninterrupted reality. It’s still a good ride, a really good ride.
Living. Living life to the fullest.
Experiencing, learning, growing, loving, giving, sharing, teaching, risking…
Those who put themselves out there, those who risk, live.
I believe that those who expose themselves for who they really are, those who allow themselves to be vulnerable, live. They live life to the fullest. They live life with a whole heart.
Hearts were meant to be broken or else they wouldn’t break. Love.
Gifts were meant to be given and shared because if they were selfishly hoarded they wouldn’t be gifts, but would be burdens. Give.
Lessons and experiences only have value to enrich others when taught. Teach.
If one isn’t growing, one is dying. Grow.
Without risk there is nothing. Risk.
Will there be pain? Yes
Will there be joy? Yes
If we couldn’t feel pain, we wouldn’t feel joy. Feel.
To get to the other side of anything, we must walk through it. Experience.
My brain thinks. My heart loves, my heart gives, my heart shares, my heart teaches, my heart experiences, my heart risks, my heart feels, my heart grows, my heart lives!
I choose to live whole heartedly from this moment on. To live, live with my whole heart.
Seven years ago today I got sober.
Thats 2557 days of uninterrupted reality.
I stay sober 1 day at a time. May tomorrow be just another one of those days.
You see I don’t drink like regular people. If I take a drink I have no idea where I will end up. Once one drink is in me, I go to the bitter end of fucked up drunkeness.
Therefore I choose to not drink at all. Life is better for me that way. Not everyone is like me, but I am.
So am I.
Make Your Own Kind of Music featuring Mama Cass
I know I’ve featured it before. However this song, and especially this mix, is always worth a reblog. I ran into it today and it just makes me feel good.
Go ahead, hit play and tap a toe or two…
I first heard this mix on a dance floor at a mid 1990’s circuit party in Los Angeles. I’ve since taken a twirl on many a dance floor to this favorite mix from San Francisco to the outside pool deck dance floor under the stars on an all gay cruise in the Caribbean and anywhere I heard it in between.
Just stop whatever you are doing or thinking and hit play. You’ll be glad you did.
I’m a half full kinda guy.
Whats your leaning? Glass half full? Glass half empty?
Yesterday I was listening to an interview of Shawn Achor when I heard him say that it doesn’t really matter which angle you have on the subject, just as long as you know how to get what you need to fill your glass.
Chew on that one for a minute.
Cher has always been able to fill my glass.
Yesterday after having an incredible time at breakfast breaking bread with a dear blogger friend (or Penguin in this case), we walked the banks of the tidal basin to take in the texture of full Cherry Blossom.
Only to arise early today that we might jet down the coast for a tasty lunch by the southern sea.
“Live Love Laugh” were the words that Fearsome left behind in the temple of Burning Man. Wherever I am may I always remember to pause, be grateful and to Live Love Laugh.
Does a need to belong keep me from living life?
I live my life out there yet to some degree or another I’ve always had a yearning for acceptance at some level. I’ve found that a desire for acceptance will sometimes inhibit me. Inhibit my expression in order to conform.
I have a hunch that others around might on occasion have a similar feeling.
What I’ve learned, that I don’t always practice, is to just get out there. I must remind myself to go out and live. Express without hesitation. Look for similarities. Share and enjoy love, life and laughter.
Naysayers may shake their head. I say let them. Who knows, maybe I’ll inspire them.
Find a tribe.
Best. Music. Video. Ever.
Blind Melon – No Rain
Have a wonderful day!
Some 10, 11 or maybe even 12 years ago I started reading Spo Reflections. Little did I know that a friendship was in the making.
I read, he blogged. I read, he blogged. I added a comment, he responded. I read and commented, he blogged and responded. So it went.
Thursday of this week I went out to visit him and a few others in Palm Springs. A jolly good time was had by all. Ron was among them as well as Someone, Doug, Leon & Pat. Food, conversation, laughter and fun shared by all.
This here internet thingy doesn’t have to be isolating. All we have to do is get out and meet up.
Cheers to those I’ve met in person and those I’ve yet to meet.
A little smile can go a long way to start a day.
These rescue dogs helped give me a smile this morning. They are worth a share.
May you find beauty, love and laughter in your day today.
I am part of humanity. My experience is that we humans are a social race. A social race in need of connection.
I find that I am happier and content when I connect with others. It seems to me that those I come in contact with also enjoy connection.
So instead of division why don’t I focus more on connection? Methinks me might need to extend a bit more energy reaching out to others rather than turning inward.
Today I contemplate focusing on reaching out. Today I contemplate looking for similarities.
Today I share with you in order that I might connect with you, someone whom I may not know well but might connect with as humanity.
Watch it. Watch it until the end.
The Christmas tree is down and already in the alley for pick up.
All the decorations are boxed and in the attic. Most everything is back in its place. It’s been a great holiday season. The 7 dogs are snuggled in their places on the couch and in dog beds.
We just had a wonderful New Year’s Eve dinner out at one of our favorite Italian spots in Hillcrest. Times Square plays on the tv as we enjoy the wonderful place we call home.
We have two wonderful god sons who have grown into young men.
We were there for each of their births and have been their god parents since each of those wonerdful days. Joshua is a senior at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Markus is a senior in the International Baccalaureate program of San Diego High. Both speak three languages fluently. Their dad and The Better Half have been friends since high school, he and his wife are two of the best friends anyone could ever begin to wish for.
The two youngest dogs, our rescued Yorkies, have recovered extremely well from their double knee surgeries and are no longer confined to a nursery area but are living out with us and the rest of the pack.
Our home is full of love. We enjoy our community. Our careers are both fulfilling and lucrative.
With overwhelming gratitude, Fearsome and I wish each and every one of of you a very Happy New Year!
With appropriate timing we kick off the Christmas week on the last evening of Hanukkah with Babs Levine lip syncing one of Fearsome’s favorite Barbra Streisand Christmas tunes.
Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas!
