We lost Olivia Newton John this week.
I have to pause and thank her for the many memories as well as being part of the soundtrack of my life. She stepped into my life with her iconic performance opposite John Travolta in Grease. I was in the throws of puberty and deeply in lust with Mr. Travolta when that movie came out. She was stunning.
Then she took my breath away with her single Physical. The video for that gave me not only a hard on, but hope that there were actually other men who liked other men besides me, possibly many of them.
She showed up many other times in my life. However when she popped into my life in Sordid Lives, she stepped up into iconic camp status.
Thank you Olivia.
I’ve always wanted to post this tune as it was a favorite of mine from my youth. Dolly always brought me awe as she brought me joy. She does so more today than ever. I can’t think of any better time than this moment to post the beautiful song.

It’s no secret that Dolly Parton is one of my heroes. My life is blessed to have shared our planet during her life.
The simple beauty of this early appearance with her two sisters is divine. Stick around as her mother and grandfather are in the audience.
Dolly Parton – Break My Mind – Porter Wagoner Show
Dolly has been a guiding light throughout my life.
I still vividly remember the very first time I heard her sing Jolene through the speaker of the AM radio of my mother’s white 1967 Buick Electra 225 as we drove through the back county of Tennessee late at night on the way to my uncle’s house in Missouri. I also remember being at my friend Melissa’s house when she played Dolly’s new 45 of Two Doors Down as we danced to it in the living room of her mother’s small apartment, as well as hearing Dolly and Kenny Rogers sing Islands In The Stream while running the cash register at my very first “real” job at the corner convenience mart gas station.
I consider her a blessing to not only my life, but to our society as a whole. She’s a kind and giving soul. May her message of hope light up your holidays as it is lighting up mine.

🎵 So smile for a while and let’s be jolly, love shouldn’t be so melancholy, come on and enjoy the good times while we ca-a-a-aan 🎶
I’ve always rather enjoyed this tune from my childhood.
Sometimes simple beauty is all that is needed to calm the soul.

Funny, the old version didn’t make me cry.
It’s a certain holiday that I don’t feel like celebrating today. I’m a gonna clean house, bathe the dogs, catch up on some odds- n -ends and maybe bake a cake.
I’ve got my California state flag a flyin’ on the pole out in front of my house.
So I’ll leave this here and wish you a great day.
