Happy New Year 2023

I wish to take a moment to not only wish you all of my best in the coming year, but to thank you, you that has taken a moment to click onto my blog and are reading these words.

On June 1, 2014 I started Fearsome Beard to part and be a part of the blogging community that I was regularly reading. The encouragement, love and support I received was amazing. I was hooked and stumbled my way into this world. I’ve never been a writer, but found I enjoyed expressing myself.

Without you stopping by I probably would have given it up, but you kept coming back. All of you kept coming back and more and more started coming by. I’m humbled.

In 2022 Fearsome Beard had 207,721 views from 45,791 visitors. These numbers are records for this 8 year old blog. These numbers humble me and I thank you, all of you.

I also wish to thank my referring fellow bloggers. Bosguy sent me 12,496 viewers,   Ishouldbelaughing  sent me 3,823 viewers,  Riding on sent me 1,700 viewers and  Raybeard    sent me 565 viewers. Many others of you sent me many viewers as well and I can’t thank all of you enough. All of you are very dear to me.

Gratitude is always a place that gets me in good spirits and friendship, even if it’s over the internet, is something I cherish. I dedicate this tune to you my readers and fellow bloggers for you are my friends, and for you I am grateful!

Happy New Year 2023! May your year ahead be full of peace, love, friendship, good health and fulfillment.

We Are Family

One thing Anne Marie taught me was to have a good time.

Times get hard, politics can suck, shit happens, illness comes and it goes, we age, life isn’t always fair, work is …well work and sometimes all we can do is scream FUCK!

But

We can always stop and have a dance party.

She taught me to feel the pain, but to get up and change my attitude. To get up, get back to it and most of all have a good time. Life is short, why waste it?

She taught me that we can create our own family through our community.

Sister Sledge – We Are Family – 1979

Anne Marie, you are family!

In Loving Memory

It is with great sadness that I write this.
Our beloved friend and blogger Anne Marie in Philly has passed away.

Todd, Fearsome, Mistress Maddie and Anne Marie July 2019

Anne Marie,
I cannot fully express my gratitude that you came into my life. I thank you for the laughter, smiles, smooches, encouragement, likes, comments, tears, fun, companionship, hospitality, outlook, perspective, bitchyness, joy and most of all love. I will miss you greatly. I will always carry you in my heart and share just a piece of you with everyone I possibly can.

Todd,
My condolences in your great loss. Please know that I am always here for you.

Godspeed.

Gratitude

I’ve found that anytime I begin anew that I am more productive, creative, fulfilled and successful if I begin from a place of gratitude.

The year two thousand twenty one is fresh, so there is no better time for me to put a new foot forward toward bettering myself. I hope to be a better husband, better friend, better real estate agent, better painter, better blogger and better person in the coming year.

So I choose to start with gratitude. Being that you are reading this on this here blog thingy called Fearsome Beard, why not begin with it.

You don’t need me to tell you that twenty twenty has been a dumpster fire of a year. However as all years go, there are milestones that happen. Yes bad shit happens but so does good.

Fearsome Beard passed the milestone of ninety thousand views for the first time in our 6 year history, 94,267 views from 28,724 visitors. Both of these numbers were all time highs. All time highs thanks to you my dear readers and also thanks to blogger buddy referrals.

Our number 1 referring blog was  I Should Be Laughing with 2,855 referrals, coming in at number two is Bosguy who sent us 2,319 referrals and to round out the top three we received 1,165 referrals from Riding On . Thank you to the three of you and all of the many other wonderful Blogger buddies I have who send readers my way by including Fearsome in their blogroll and linking back to this blog. Without the support of other bloggers over the years Fearsome Beard wouldn’t have become the important part of my life that it has. Appreciate all of you I do.

While we are on the blogger buddy gratitude train I simply must thank UrSpo over at  Spo Reflections as he introduced me to blogging and walked me through the process of registering with WordPress and right into my very first post. I cannot be grateful to blogger buddies without mentioning three special ones I met many years ago in the comments section of UrSpo’s blog who are  Anne Marie ,   Sassybear  &   Erik all who have been readers and supporters of Fearsome since our first week.

Most of all I want to thank you, each and every one of you who clicks, reads, follows, likes and comments right here on our blog. Fearsome and I are humbled. We hope that we at least bring a smile to at least one face per day. Each and every smile in the world makes this world a better place.

Fearsome and I love our journey that is our life and we are happy and most grateful that you are a part of it.

Fearsome & Spo

Sometimes we get the honor of spending time with our mentors. I had the honor of having dinner Friday evening with not only a mentor but a good friend.

After many years of reading and commenting on his blog, it was our dear UrSpo who encouraged me, and showed me how, to start my own blog.

Spo, I had a great time and look forward to our next meeting.

In the mean time my dear friend, safe travels on your way home today.

Friends

Blogging has blessings, blogging makes friends.

Jeffrey, Fearsome and Sassybear

I’ve conversed via comment sections for many years with Sean (aka Sassybear) and grew to love him. Tonight I met not only him, but also his other half, here in San Diego for a laughter filled dinner. It was the first time we have ever met face to face and I will say this, no finer two gentlemen will one ever meet. Honored I am.

They arrived here this afternoon for Comic-Con. Fun we will have!

Friends, Cities and Family

The last week of April the better half and I celebrated 29 years together by treating ourselves to a east coast trip to both New York and Philadelphia. The kind lady that the check in desk of New York’s Marriott Marquis Time Square surprised us with a room upgrade. We found ourselves blessed with an unbelievable 35th floor view of Time Square eye to eye with the famous clock.

Time Square View April 2019

New York was wonderful. We made it to the Guggenheim, the Frick, MOMA, the Vessel, Bergdorf’s, the Fashion Institute, Mood, a Metz game, Rockefeller Center, Macy’s and of corse Tiffany. We saw To Kill a Mocking Bird, The Cher Show and Dear Evan Hansen. A whirlwind it was, a good one in fact.

Fearsome met a rather inspiring politician at Penn station awaiting his train to Philly.

Elijah E. Cummings

In Philly we were greeted by three wonderful friends and bloggers. Bloggers known as Mistress Maddie,  Arteejee  and none other than the famous Anne Marie in Philly. We had a great dinner with the three of them. Fun conversation and lots of laughter. Blogging really does have its benefits. The bloggers I’ve met in person over the years have all become treasured friends. I’ll be back to see these three!

Todd, Fearsome, Maddie and Anne Marie

The next day was spent with family as a Fearsome’s niece lives just outside of Philadelphia . We attended a Phillies game with the whole crew.

The better half is obviously celebrating the day, Cinco De Mayo.  …back row… Fearsome, Mom, Sister in law, brother, nephew in law, …next row… The Better Half, niece in law, great niece, great niece, great nephew and niece all taking in a Phillies game on May 5, 2019.

The highlight of our trip? Well there were many and you know what? The whole trip was a highlight. I’m blessed with a husband I love, friends I love and family I love.

Blogger issues

Hello all!

I use WordPress.

Blogger eludes me.

I have a blogger account and used to be able to comment on Blogger Blogs. Along my blogging way I’ve been able to comment at times as myself on blogger and then sometimes not. Issues were occasional.

Now it seems I’m completely locked out of blogger. I can read the blogs but cannot comment. At least not as me. If you have blogger and allow anonymous comments I will identify myself in my anonymous comment. If you don’t allow anonymous comments please know I still read but am no longer allowed to comment on your blog at all.

Hopefully I’ll find resolve in the future, but for now it is what it is.

Hugs!

Over commitment

I have stretched myself thin.

We moved my mother across country into our house with us three weeks ago. I then traveled to Florida to work on rental properties there. We moved my in-laws from Fresno into a condo we own just minutes from us yesterday. We just renovated that condo and also a town house we own for my Sister-in-law to move into. My work is very busy. We are submitting for permits to build onto our house. Mom has doctor appointments, the dogs have vet appointments, I have doctor appointments, I have a rash, both our godsons are graduating…

Are you getting the picture?

To top it all off I gave up what I I enjoy (blogging and reading blogs regularly) for a news obsession since the 2016 presidential election.

Me-thinks I need to pause, re-evaluate and reset my path for maximum enjoyment of the blessings that life has given me.

I will start by writing this post and by sharing this video by two of my favorite inspirational bearded kilt wearing coaches.

This Kilted Coaches Video reminds me to ask, act and focus toward things I wish to have and not toward those I do not.

I also wish to express my gratitude to you, my readers and fellow bloggers, for sticking with me even though I’ve drifted. I also want to thank you for helping shepard me back to blogging. Don’t hesitate to give me a nudge if I stray. 😉

Changing Horizons

Yesterday after having an incredible time at breakfast breaking bread with a dear blogger friend (or Penguin in this case), we walked the banks of the tidal basin to take in the texture of full Cherry Blossom.

Only to arise early today that we might jet down the coast for a tasty lunch by the southern sea.

“Live Love Laugh” were the words that Fearsome left behind in the temple of Burning Man. Wherever I am may I always remember to pause, be grateful and to Live Love Laugh.

Blogging Benefits

A benefit of blogging that I enjoy is that of friendship.

Yesterday I received a surprise package in the mail from Meanwhile Over in Cali.

Thanks R.J. !

Next week I will have the pleasure of meeting Travel Penguin for a morning meal.

Our banter, comments, humor, insight, advice, empathy, respect and understanding make for a wonderful community. We come from all places and all walks of life. I love being part of this here blogging community and I wish to express my gratitude to all those in my blogging circle.

Hug!

Friend Reflections

Some 10, 11 or maybe even 12 years ago I started reading Spo Reflections. Little did I know that a friendship was in the making.

UrSpo & Fearsome

I read, he blogged. I read, he blogged. I added a comment, he responded. I read and commented, he blogged and responded. So it went.

Thursday of this week I went out to visit him and a few others in Palm Springs. A jolly good time was had by all. Ron was among them as well as Someone, Doug, Leon & Pat. Food, conversation, laughter and fun shared by all.

This here internet thingy doesn’t have to be isolating. All we have to do is get out and meet up.

Cheers to those I’ve met in person and those I’ve yet to meet.

Coffee with a friend

One knows a friend when the two of you can meet up and the conversation flows. The words are interesting, come easily and are comfortable. You make each other laugh, understand each other and both listen. It doesn’t matter if you saw each other yesterday or last year, the company is just plain comfortable. Time flies when the two of you are together.

Yesterday I had coffee with such a friend. We hadn’t seen each other in a year. In fact we first met at that meeting last year. We are both bloggers. Last year we had a meet up and a friendship was born. Yesterday we met, had coffee, enjoyed the company and deepened the friendship. That Blogger is this Blogger.

Yup. R.J. from Meanwhile Over in Cali.

You will find a post about our encounter over on R.J.’s Blog as well. Hopefully this year will allow the two of us to meet up again soon, sooner than another year. For R.J. Is delightful and friendships are to be treasured.

Family

We are blessed. We have two families. The one we were born into and the one we choose.

Our natal families folded into one larger family after we settled into our life together. I into The Better Half’s, he into mine and ours into each other. This made for one big family that blessed us even more.

Living away from our family for many years allowed us to choose a chosen family of good friends who care and love each other as if we had always been and will continue to be. This family is large and blesses our home with more than 30 holiday celebrants each and every Christmas Day. Our blessing overflows.

Our friends extend beyond or natal family and our chosen family into our work, interests, neighbors, bloggers, vacation acquaintances and just plain old good friends who live both near and far. Our bounty of blessings humble us.

Love, respect and sincerity are the basis of this blessing we call family.

This most recent trip filled our cup. I met with two blog buddies for a wonderful dinner. Unfortunately the third wasn’t able to join due to an illness but we sent our love to him in hopes that better days lie ahead. We, the better half & I, then set off via Amtrack to New York with part of my natal family for one of those experiences that money could never buy (but definitely helps with😉).

You see after the loss of my father I asked my mother, who had been caring for him, where had she always wanted to go. She said New York to see The Rockettes. That was her dream. Not Paris, not London, not even Hawaii. I promised her then that we would take her to New York. It took two years and she lost her oldest son before it happened, but it happened. We made a family trip out of it with Mom, me, The Better Half, my brother, sister-in-law, niece, her husband, two great grandchildren and a nephew.

Family

Nothing, no nothing will ever mean as much to me as my mother grabbing my hand after the curtain fell at the end of The Rockettes Christmas Spectacular as tears streamed down her face as she said “I have never seen anything so beautiful!” They exceeded her expectations and believe me she had high expectations.

For her to have her family with her on a trip she had only dreamed of all of her life, a dream she probably thought would never come to be, was truly a dream come true. I cannot express my gratitude for the blessing that that moment, my family and life truly is.

The moral of this post, at least for me, is that this is our one life, so live it, love it, share it, and give it. Give it to your natal family, or your chosen family, or both. Give it to someone you meet, you work with, you run into or even to someone you don’t know at all. Give a smile, share a laugh, respect, understand, forgive, serve and most of all love. Just love.

A farewell and a new friend

This morning on our way to Philly we had a stopover and as we landed at San Fransisco International SFO we had the honor of seeing United’s last 747 on the tarmac before it’s final farewell flight today from San Fransisco to Hawaii.

I love 747s and thankfully have flown several of them over the years. Godspeed my friend.

Then after arriving in Philly we, Fearsome & meself, had the greater honor of re-uniting with an old friend and meeting a new one face to face for the first time. It’s been a wonderful day.
