The choice of ‘pain’ was purposeful – as in “So good it HURTS!”
An example – in Peter Schaffer’s ‘Amadeus’ , Salieri. on hearing for the first time the adagio from Mozart’s Wind Partita, in tears at its beauty, rushes out into the night, crying out “Oh, the pain!” (In original play – which maybe you’re not familiar with[?] – but cut from the, for me, inferior film).
Is it odd that I did not even notice that he had a beard?
Gee whizz and holy smoke! I’m SO VERY dazzled! Oh, the pain!!!!
