  1. Have to confess that throughout the 70s and longer I detested with a passion just about anything that Paul did (with or w/out Wings), though later came to admit that much of that was a rebounded resentment from the breaking up of the greatest pop group the world has known (which with the passage of time we’ve come to understand the split was largely instigated by John, which we weren’t sure about then). And of course there was Linda, who I then saw as a talentless hanger-on (and universally vilified here). But since her untimely passing, her being elevated to near sainthood I’m relaxed about, due to her ardent championing of meat substitutes, and even now hardly a week goes by without my ingesting several of her ongoing industry’s lovely products.
However, my opinion of ‘Silly Love Songs’ hasn’t mellowed much ( I do, however, from early in the decade, still like ‘Live and Let Die, surely one of the very best of all Bond songs) – though my vehement dislike of ‘Lovely Christmastime’ remains as solid as before. I just cannot abide it – so half-baked, so inchoate, so, frankly, D-A-F-T! Yet we still have to endure it every flaming Yuletide!
Accepting your being a fan of S.L.S. above (maybe for you it’s evocative of a time which only you can appreciate?) Accepting that I may be wrong, I’ll inch in your direction by opining that for me it’s by no means his worst creation. Sorry, but that’ll just have to do.

Oh dear! What a can of worms has been opened ! 😉

    • It was released at a very important time of my youth. That being said while I loved the catchy tune of it then, I’ve found as I’ve aged I appreciate it more for its playfulness. I prefer fun love and find too many love songs too serious and frankly sappy.

      • Totally understood, Fb. I’ve no grounds for arguing with you, and wouldn’t want to. In fact I was going to come back here and ask you to delete my response above, reflecting that it was a rather ungallant and intemperate rejoinder to your own obviously heartfelt posting, which I now regret. So now let’s just draw a line under it.

  2. Silly Love Songs was really popular, though critics weren’t too kind. As far as his love songs, my favorite has always been Maybe I’m Amazed. Seeing him in concert, and hearing him talk about how he wrote it for Linda, is emotionally amazing.

    • While I agree Maybe I’m Amazed is a great love song, I prefer the playful light hearted and simply fun SLS. Maybe I find the falling in love part my favorite part of love? Something to ponder I guess.
