this is one of my fave movies of all time, BTW! 🙂
Of course the song is all the more remarkable in that this section was filmed when Gene Kelly was suffering with a high fever, but tight scheduling meant that it couldn’t be delayed. Whenever I watch it – and it does pay an infinite number of viewings without tiring – I’m always looking for him giving away what he’s going through, as well as getting drenched by all that ‘rain’ for his troubles (or heavily diluted milk, as was actually used), but I can never pinpoint any sign. Although I wish I could stop looking for that, it’s high testament indeed to his talents that it doesn’t show. MAH-vellous!
I don’t really know much history on the film so was unaware of this fact. Wow it is a testament to him to do that so well under the circumstances.
